I don't know, I was about 12. I always thought a C clip broke or popped out.
IMO GM should have stayed with their big pumpkin rears for the heavy or performance cars.
Like I said, a LS6 and a 12 bolt is a poor match. On the ragged edge of being strong enough.
But hey, that very 66 Catalina came with a 389 and 3 on the tree. And the trans was a stock from the factory FoMoCo 3 speed cast iron Top Loader !
My dad found a AFB carb and intake off a 65 GTO and put it on the family wagon.
