I had problems with getting the belt past the pulley and crossmember a couple of engines ago. During a motor swap I realized that the motor mounts and tranny mount allow for quite a bit of adjustment. I pushed the motor/tranny back, tightened the bolts down, and all was good.
I am running an AC WP pulley, something like 6 or 6.5". I can't remember the part numbers.
I still haven't put a thermostat in it. I've been pleased all summer, but it still creeps at idle. I just avoid lengthy drive-thrus.
