Default Report on AMES 14 x 6 Rally Trim Rings T111H

I've occasionally seen questions arise on these boards about stock style aftermarket trim rings. I thought I'd make up a little report on my experiences with the AMES T111H "14 x 6 Rally I & II wheel trim ring set Polished"
I have stock Rally II "JA" wheels. The T111H are advertised to be very close in shape to the original 67-68 trim rings for these wheels. I would have preferred brushed (correct for 67) but I suspected there is nothing special about the "brush" process that I couldn't do myself, so I went with the polished set. These I believe are chrome flashed stainless steel. They look very nice. Check out the pictures. In a couple pictures, I'm comparing a T111H to (what I believer to be) original brushed Rally wheel trim ring.
The "clips" are simply sharp edged tangs formed onto spring steel strips. The spring steel is thick and they don't give very well. In fact, in my first attempt at installing one the ring actually deformed from the heavy spring pressure of the "clips". I can't see how they'd work as is.
The tangs appeared to me to be sticking too far out and they'd have to really bend to fit to the wheel. I set out to bend the tangs back a little bit so they wouldn't have to bend as much. I mounted a heavy duty flat tip screwdriver in my vise and slipped the trim ring so that the tip of the screwdriver contacted the base of the tang. I was able to tap the bend in the tang to bend it down. I only bent the tangs closest to the rivets Note the angle of the tangs in the before and after picture of the tangs/clips.....
