If the fuel lines are touching the block and/or heads that sounds like a disaster. I've always had non stock A-bodies though. When I had mechanical pumps on my car the lines were never touching the block or heads, kind of suspended. I had a shop put an electric pump on and they had a little bracket holding the braided fuel line attached to a threaded hole near the front of the oil pan. It was barely touching and I had a hot start issue with that until I removed it and it immediately cured it.
