Probably wouldn't even need a 50hp shot to spool the turbos, use an adjustable vacuum switch or full throttle switch to turn the nitrous on, and another adjustable boost activated switch to turn the nitrous off at a boost level above where the turbo starts making boost.
These systems were popular over here a long time back on small 4 pot engines with big turbos - 15-20 hp shot would instantly spool the turbo, you could use a 500hp turbo on a 2 litre engine without any turbo lag. Dave Vizard did an article on this in a Brit magazine back in the late '80's, I have a copy somewhere.
There was a 2 litre Cosworth Pinto powered MK1 Ford Escort running 10's at our local strip two years back, street driven too with a manual trans.
