Default 72 LeMans Core Support Mounts Rusted Out

I started working on the long overdue 72 LeMans project and pulled off the core support to try to repair where the core support bushings rotted out. If I sandwich weld both sides of the core support plates, would I need to trim the new bushings or use thinner washers to compensate for the new metal? It seems that finding a 72 core support is a difficult and pricey endeavor though 1970 ones (particularly Chevelle) are quite common and cheap.
