Even with the cut away reinforcement "opened up" as was said did very little for actual performance if any. The Olds 442 guys in 65 were well aware of this and went with the two 4" ram tubes and special Tri-Power shroud on their 1966 race cars "FOR A REASON".
That being said, it was a cool marketing gimmick.
