No need to run the engine to get the air out. The steering gear acts as a pump when you rotate the wheel back and forth expelling the air.

And with limited use of your arm, you may want to lift the front tires off the ground to make it easy to turn, lock to lock a couple times.

Make sure you have the correct PS fluid.
