I'm thinking, IF the story is true, the air cleaner base and shaker were put in the trunk when the engine was pulled and that's why they're rusted away. I'd bet there's no trunk pan anymore. The owners manuals look like they may have been in a plastic bag in the glove compartment so the humidity rusted the staples but they're in otherwise good condition (the sides we see in pic). The current bid being at 8 large leads me to think there's a body swap in this cars future. Use the engine and VIN numbers then part out the rest of the car. The options and lack of AC make it a desirable performance car.
