I would stick with the B or F Body cars myself, after owning several 78-83 GM A/G Body cars, I have decided they don't ride as well as the other models, that and the rear frame rust issues they seem to be prone to.
The ride issue really became apparent to me when I replaced our 83 Cutlass Cruiser wagon with the 78 Catalina Safari we now have. World of difference, the A/G Body seemed to almost porpoise down the road, and no the shocks were not bad.
But I agree $4000 is a reasonable total price for the White Catalina as there is no real demand for the body style.
