We also don't know what the OP means when he says "it is all there and will need to be restored". Does that mean locating a shaker for it? Just new carpet and interior? New quarters, etc. Too many unknowns. All else being equal yes, a polar white auto with non-original motor will be worth less than a lucerne blue 4-speed with its born with drivetrain. Too many unknowns here for an accurate assessment and even with pictures still tough to do.

Ultimately, I think we are discussing 2 questions:
1) whether a project should be bought at $6k or $3k?
2) whether or not a project should be restored at all?

It feels like the OP is asking question 1 when question 2 is the question that matters. I should know, I often get hung up on question 1 and often forget all about question 2.
