Actually I have bought a couple of the mid 72 "928's" with external regulation as well.
These are NOT a oddball, and many you can find are NOT rebuilt.
These were used on AMC Gremlins with external regulators.. GASP...
Yup, I have removed an original myself. In Fact you can find the 928's up into 1976, and seller will tell you they are from 1966.
You can buy these for 20-30 bucks and rebuild into a 10si, IF you really need that date. I have built a few of them.
