it is exactly like the glove box light. the setup pushes down through a hole on the top where the plunger contacts the door. the light just hangs down inside and there's a hole drilled through the console box insert that lets the light shine in. It was a crappy design, didn't give much light and had problems with the light not going out, plunger breaking off, etc. They ended up eliminating that soon afterwards on the 69-72 consoles so if you've got a later insert box it might be missing the hole for the light to shine through.
