I'm amazed. I have a 69 Firebird with round port Dougs and I can easily fit Wix 51049 which is the larger 1qt filter. I'm using the 90 degree filter adapter and have no problems getting filters on and off. Personally I would try and run the long branch adapter and get the largest filter I could to fit. Pontiac engineers used the pf24 size filter for a reason and I would attempt to try and get a filter of at least that size to fit. I like the larger filters due to increased capacity and larger filtration area.
