OK. Here's the "Ripleys" story. And they wouldn't believe it either.
In 1969 I bought a 62 Cat 4-door sedan. $50. The owner said the motor was knocking & the tranny was shot. I towed it home and took it apart. The engine code said 389 2-barrel. After pulling the oil pan I saw 4-BOLT main caps. The crank measured 3.25.
I looked around to make sure there was a 2-barrel intake & carb....yep.
But 2 of the main caps were broken between the small & large bolts. Hence the knock.
I junked it all. "That"s my true story".
