A long time back, when 60s cars were still on the used car lots, I came across a '66 or '67 Malibu SS with a bench seat and 3 on the tree. The salesman told me that the original buyer wanted a bench seat and that was the only way he could get it. Looking back I wonder if it was a Malibu that someone had added the SS equipment to. I do remember it having the big block under the hood though.
The first three vehicles I had were column shift 3 speeds. The drivers Ed cars were all standard shift as well.
I learned to drive on a tractor so for me it was no big deal but for a lot of kids it was quite an issue. I remember sitting in the back seat giggling while some young girl was trying to get the car to move.
