Maybe I'm just lazy
but if your car still has the generator setup and it's still working, I don't think there's any great reason to go through the time and expense of converting to an alternator. Unless you've added a big radio or some other accessory that draws a lot of power it should be okay. I've never had any issues with generators, and if there is a problem 9 times out of 10 all they need is a set of brushes and new bearings.
