So the car must have quickly gone from NYC (if it ever got there to begin with) to the southwest because the sheetmetal is very nice.

What a neat GP! There was a '69 GP 4-speed that was for sale a couple of years ago with "export prep" shown on the invoice. It had a special bracket for shipping purposes attached to the center of the front cross-member. Does your car have this as well? Here's a picture of it...
