June 1968. My dad brought home a 68 GTO that he had bought a few weeks before. I was sixteen and summer vacation was just starting. Unlike the 1964 K engine Fairlane that was traded in, I was allowed to drive the GTO by myself.
It became my moms daily driver for the next 13 years and then was given to me after I left the Navy. Eighteen years later I sold it to another family member and then bought it back last year. Under restoration but progress is being made. I hope to have it done so mom can drive it one more time.
It was our first, but not the only Pontiac. I bought a 64 Catalina hardtop just after I sold the GTO. Kept it for several years and then sold it, big mistake. But now I have 'The Car'. The only one my parents had ever kept for more than four years.
My twenty-two year old daughter is in line for it next
