They don't always get crushed...
but when they do it's due to liability and product security.
The cars are not "saleable" so they basically sit around until somebody gets tired of storing them.
The various disciplines (Engineering or the Design Studio) have vehicle fleet numbers they have to adhere to so eventually it's "out with the old" to make room for the new.
