Another issue is the motor comes loose from gear housing it has 4 tangs that need to be bent over to hold motor to gear housing secure check out this thread- long reading there are several issues that cause the Grind

also the using the key fob activates the alarm to pulse the headlights to make sure they are down and if yours is stripped you will get the grind stop using fob to lock or unlock it and use key that will get you less grinding Napa sells a nylon gear for around 13$ that ive had good and bad luck last motor issue I had I went through 3 nylon gears in couple weeks the real issue was the drive gear on the motor was little to far away from plastic gear too much backlash and there is no adjustment for that so I bought a new motor assy from RockAuto
