Soak it in dot 3 brake fluid for a few hours or even overnight. I did it to a plastic model and it didn't hurt the plastic at all. Clean the brake fluid off with trisodium phosphate (hardware stores), but wear gloves and follow the safety recommendations. I don't know if brake fluid will take off the vacuumized metal coating or not, I would guess that it would. I wouldn't use it on potmetal though.
