I am interested;
I believe that the only part(s) attached to the engine assembly after they arrive at the vehicle manufacturing plant was the carburetor and smaller accessories, so I believe that the starter should predate the carburetor by a long shot...
My engine at this time has the following dated components:
block: April 30th
intake: May 14th
heads: April 22 & 29
distributor: January 29 (might be a bit early, unsure)
carburetor: March 10
transmission: December 30th (even though this might seem wrong, it's right in line)
starter: (not OE correct)

2009 Cobalt SS: 13.9 @ 103mph (current DD; makes something north of 300hp & 350ft/lbs)
