I’m not sure what the golden part is because I can’t see it in person.The only thing that I can think of that has a gold color is the upper end of the rod that hooks into the ignition switch that is on the lower outside of the column.That golden or brass end slips into the lower end of the pot metal rack.When the rack fails it is usually at the lower end where the two pieces hook together.you may have to pull the pivot pins and large nylock nut and remove the lower bearing housing to inspect the rack. When pulling the lower housing reinstall the tilt lever so you can move the adjuster pawls to ease releasing the lower housing.
