I'm not doubting your friends credentials. But highly doubt this is a necessity unless your running a thermostat without any by pass modification. But I am not an expert or engine builder by trade. I have been plugging the bypass on mine for 25 years, street driven and raced hard. I started by plugging it to eliminate any chance for leaks.
