That's what it's doing but it's not suppose to. Dome light wire is hot at all times. The only grounds, to turn it ON, are through headlight switch and door jamb switch.
He's got something touching making ground when he puts the screws in.
Needs to give wires and fixture a good inspect to see what's making contact when it ain't suppose to. Melted/broke insulator, bare wire on top, screw through or pinching wire...Just something making contact when he tightens it up.
