Usually different lengths with a certain amount of flex built-in, but not a lot. The parts manuals listed a part number for nearly every application. Later they only had a couple but also the cut-to-length stock that many called for, and probably had a set length for each instead.
It seems suppliers changed over the years, possibly had a few at same time, going from the grey stock to a more glossy black in later years, as well as the grey papery coating. Even a bright silver foil coating appeared but have only seen it in GM service parts, always hard to know what is original in low mileage cars, even when they claim as much.
