Default 1964 GTO Firewall Production Assembly Markings

My 1964 GTO firewall had original white paint markingson the firewall prior to my restoration. I made a template to put them back in the same locations. I was wondering if anyone knew what they represented. My car was produced in Pontiac. The following markings were on firewall in white paint marker. 5NO I'm sure the first two were 5N. The third character looked like part of an O. The bottom half of the letter had been painted over at some point. The 5N was definite. I recognize what the 5N represents but what does the third character represent. I believe it was an O. On the driver side of the cowl behind the fender was a number in the same white paint marker. It was 72. I did not find it until I removed the fender. I did not disturb it since the condition behind the fender was excellent. Can anyone tell me what these were and how they were used in the assembly process? Thanks Danny

My 64 has a 2227 written on the firewall, LeMans of course, coupe.
It is original, Kansas built, yellow crayon on mine , (may be paint marker...not sure).
I did not see any other numbers on the firewall.
I left the number intact...of course.

After reading the many posts on firewall markings I've decided not put mine on the new paint. I'll leave the one I didn't touch behind the fender. you really have to bend down and look to see it.

I'm fairly certain the markings were put on the bare firewall and then painted over.

Default Paint line 64 Photos

Neat photos! Note they show the trim tag covered by paper or tape while being painted. Fremont trim tags are not blacked out.
