Gusher tube removal? V8
It's been a challenge trying to save a pair of tubes.
I taped up the holes in the head & soaked one tube in vinegar for 2 days. Then 2 days in Evaporust. Now 1 day in Phosphoric and it will not budge. Any bright ideas??

Worth a try but nfw. For my next trick, let's try diluted CLR & see what happens

You could also soak the entire head in full strength simple green.

I think b-man's "hammer on a c-clamp" idea is probably your best bet. Soaking in full strength Simple Green or something similar may help too, but if they're really rusty a little love tapping is going to be required.

Been a long time...iirc I pulled freeze plug and used a brass drift to tap them loose. I think it was just the taper not corrosion.

Have you removed the plug at the other end of the head to do some "loosening" from both ends?

I gave up.
Soaked overnight in Vinegar & the solution came out as clean as it went in. Tried diluted CLR & pretty much the same thing. Next was Muratic acid which got a ton of rust out and cleaned things up pretty nice but there is a great deal of rust present and I am not sure that the heads are worth saving, much less the tubes

Did you remove the freeze plug at opposite end? If not, do so.
Then use a round squared edge of a punch or rod and place the edge against end of the gusher tube and hammer the tube loose. Its a tapered tube and takes little effort to press it in. Takes alot more effort to "un-press" the fit. Add years of galvanic corrosion and even harder to break free. However once it cracks loose it practically falls out. |

The vinagar and water solution isn't an overnight deal, probably should have let it sit at least a week. Ive cleaned other parts with a 10/1 and let them set a few weeks

Learned something new...
Apparently there are 2 different style tubes and they may not be interchangeable?
Do any of you know the breakdown in years? Note the tube on the left, it has a different shape & the top is a little taller & the right hand one has more of a rounded top.

A pretty comprehensive thread on the tubes can be found here: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=721850
