Default Rocker Panel Molding and clip set install? How to?

Hey All,

I received my stainless steel rocker panel moldings and clip sets from Ames. Can anyone provide pictures, instructions or suggestions on what clips go where? I’ll be searching this forum and also Google.

The moldings on the door, I have installed. but the long one from front to rear fender is where I need help.

This might help some and although it's a '68 the process is basically the same. I remember looking at the long pieces and wondering how they attached. You place the smaller clips (and plastic grommets if equipped) in the locations indicated in the previous mechanical drawing and the bring top edge of the molding over these. The long pieces "hook" onto the bottom edge of the molding (see second pic) and lay horizontal under the rocker held in by screws.

You need two holes in rear quarter drilled and one screw put in.
Front fender has no clip.

Clip on this side was misaligned from factory, other side was straight.

Cduster, NyTrainer, OldGoat:
These pictures are amazingly helpful. I forgot to order the GTO emblems for the rocker panels; so another week or two before I start this project. Thanks so much.

I originally thought one rocker panel molding kit does one side; maybe one kit does both sides. Not sure. ????

That does both sides.
Actually, you don't need the clip in front of the door.

I’m having a hard time understanding these drawings as I try to piece together the rocker panel kit.

Does one kit do one side or both sides? This answer would help me put this project in the completed section. (-:

Worked on the rocker panel molding today (drivers side); think I have it right. Regarding the clips that support the upper section on the molding; there’s a lip on it and I believe this lip faces outward to catch the upper side of the molding (see pic).
On the door panel molding; I can’t get this part to tighten up against the door. As the pic shows, a paint stirring stick fit’s within the gap. Suggestions?

Does anyone have info on the 67 front fender holes for the emblem when installing the rocker molding after the body shop closed up all the holes....do the nuts fit inside the holes or do the studs go in the holes and the nuts hold the rocker/emblem to the fender? Also, is there a mounting clip on the front fender? if so, anyone have a picture of where its supposed to be. I'm converting from the 1st design (build is sept 66 ) to the 2nd design that Ames sells.

I’ll try to answer your email you sent me here and my apologies if I misinterpreted.
As I recall (been 2 years), there is 2 holes, 1 round and 1 oval-like. I believe the round hole is for the threaded stud (on the clip) to go through and then a nut is used to secure the clip. The hole cannot be larger than the nut. The emblem is secured to the molding only by two studs that are “not” threaded. The molding kit comes with nuts that cut threads into the studs. The pictures above helped me install the molding and again I’m going by memory.

Yes, The Emblem is attached only to the molding.
The lower holes in dogleg do clear the nuts/studs.
