Default Interior paint help

I am restoring my 1978 Y88 and need code 62 for the Camel tan interior. The old paint systems that were used on these cars seems to be gone. I was able to get some blue mixed for the interior of my 1974 a few years ago with the old paint system and it was dead on. What is everyone using now for correct color and sheen?

Some of the "Camel Tan" interiors had a reddish tint others are more "tan". Here is a picture of the dash and roll cage I painted on the 79 Camaro I have I thknk was the standard SEM Camel Tan. I have some cans at the shop to be sure .

Get it mixed up at the auto, paint store, I don’t use the paint you can buy at Walmart. Yes, Walmart sell SEM.

Take a sample like an A pillar or ashtray to get paint matched to.

I have a 78 TA with Camel interior. I used SEM 15173 Camel Color Coat. I thought SEM was pretty good. As you likely know, there can be different shades of Camel in the interior on the various interior parts. I have seem what were supposed to be original 78 camel interior cars where there was slightly different shades on the dash, glovebox door, console and door panels. Possibly, some of the color differences could be sun related. I just used SEM 15173 on most interior parts - just cleaned and applied. Looks good and lasts well - and easy to touchup if needed.

If you ever go to the Dayton Firebird show, you see “Dipped” cars, all the interior matches, they didn’t come that way. I found a GM pkg tray, you can see by that, the vinyl pc is diff than the paint. Me, I don’t care for SEM, a bud did some of his interior stuff with it, it came off in spots, looked terrible. He ended up replacing most of it with nOS. Take the front arm rests, they were molded in color rubber, SEM just wears off

Why all the SEM bashing? Thats great if YOU dont like it but countless others have used it with excellent results, pros & hobbyists. If your buds came off in spots, he didnt apply or prep the parts properly... I have cars with it that are going on 10-15 years and its still holding up & looking like the day it was applied.

As for the walmart nonsense, walmart sells all kinds of products now online, they are trying to be like Amazon, the SEM paints are the exact same product you would buy in a auto paint supply store. They also sell BF Gooodrich tires and all other name brand products, they are all sold & shipped from other stores, walmart just acts as a 3rd party vendor.

If you want a perfect match then by all means get it matched & mixed up, but for all other hobbyists the SEM is a quality product that will look great & last a long time if applied right.... regardless of where its purchased from.

Skip's rollbar & dash look excellent!

No bashing, it’s great for the alley custom guys. Pros don’t use rattle can stuff. Use it I dont care,
I’m posting pros & cons like everyone does on a forum.countless, I’m counting the ones that had problems. Paint on an arm rest isnt a good thing. Or where the rubber seals hit the SEM.

I have also found even in many original factory interiors that the same car can have 3 different shades of "Camel Tan"!
In fact my '97 Chevy truck from the factory has 2 different shades of "neutral tan".

I've had SEM painted surfaces in my 79 for decades without any adhesion issues. The surfaces have to be properly prepped. PPG also made vinyl dyes but I don't know if they still do it. SEM has the formulations for the interior colors for custom mixes at the paint shops. However, I've had some paint shops tell me that they cannot cross the GM code to the SEM code. Contacting SEM directly to get the formulation is an option. https://semproducts.com/contact-us
