1970 T/A upgrades
I have had several upgrades done to my 1970 T/A. Before all the purists go bonkers on me, I saved all of the original parts. The car has 37,000 original miles with a NOM engine.
First, I had to have some body work done that I suspected was a problem when I bought the car. The original windshield was removed and it was not damaged along with the antenna. Both were reinstalled with no problems. You will see the area in question in the picture of the lower right corner of the cowl. It was fixed and the windshield was reinstalled with no problems. Here is a list of the other items upgraded: Upper and lower tubular control arms QA1 coil overs up front (single adjustment) QA1 Shocks in the rear – single adjusted Bigger BMR front & rear sway bars Changed front rotors with slotted & cross drilled rotors and new brake pads Installed braided stainless steel brake lines Changed intake manifold with a real deal RAIV intake. Reproduction wouldn’t up (way off) and caused vacuum leaks. Estimate 10 HP picked up from relieving bottleneck. Valve train upgraded with Comp cam Evolution lifters – This removed the noise I had before. New valve covers from Butler Performance New March serpentine belt system Griffin radiator and electric fans from Derale – Two 17’ fans that pull 4,800CFM LED headlights Previous upgrades: Stroker kit for engine T-56 transmission Subframe connectors Last edited by napster; 05-23-2024 at 12:12 PM. |

Nice work.
Very nice work. Good upgrades for performance and stopping power.
Just one question. What is that Curley Q thing holding that heater hose? Lol Very nice over-all.

It replaces the ugly hose brace from the factory.

upper dash
What product did you use to repaint your upper dash or did you not?
Just wondering cause there is an on-going debate on what product looks like the original matte finish. You taken the car to the strip? Any time slips?

I like the balanced look of the March set up on left and right .
Engine should be fun to drive Good brakes and good headlights shouldn't hurt. My 70 is going to get the 614 upgrade , and probably a non-stock color change with stripe delete. Maybe a 4+1 Nash and 3.07 gears You aren't hurting my feelings . |

Cool upgrades! How did you manage to get two 17” fans crammed in there? I have the Derale 16826 fan/shroud kit on my TA (which work great) and they are only 12” fans. Any pictures?

The first paint tried was the Ditzler paint from their chart posted by John T/A. The paint didn't match, so 3 other paints were sampled out and they turned out to be off and shiny. Here is where the Boo Hiss starts, a lot of time was spent on this single issue and Lucerne Blue was put on and applied flat. To myself and people at the shop we are in agreement it works. I know this will P.O. some people, but I'm fine with it and spending crazy money on it was not going to happen. The picture of the final product is in the first post, picture #5. With regard to the track and time slips, I don't race. Last edited by napster; 05-28-2024 at 01:26 PM. |

Thanks for the comment. The car was a hoot to drive before the upgrades. I'll post something once I get the car back. The engine was estimated to put out 460 HP before the upgrades, but the is expected extra power of 10 to 15 HP from the better intake and electric fans. |

Thanks. My mechanic installed a Griffin radiator for a GTO in the '70 T/A along with the fans. Modifications were necessary for both items and I will provide pictures and a video for your consumption. These upgrades were necessary in my eyes since I will be moving to Florida and I want to give this car the best chance it can have to survive the heat. |

Local or from TCP global. Has to be the correct lacquer with shellack Beattle additive for the correct dull look. Just wondering what you used as it looks fine to me in the picture. Thanks

A friend had a 4+1 in his 70 Formula. Good trans, but the noisiest manual trans I ever heard. It made a rock crusher seem quiet.

I know here comes the "Boo Hiss". To me it looks good and finally got the job done. It was holding up many other items that needed attention. I expect to get the car back sometime next week. I'll do some kind of video to show the final product and the other upgrades in the engine bay and underneath. https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetail.cgi?ppg=2213 Last edited by napster; 05-30-2024 at 02:23 PM. |

It might have been the non-synchro dog box version. I've had both versions of the 4+1 and the dog box is definitely noisy.

R 70 Judge,
Here is the fan setup on the car- https://www.summitracing.com/parts/d...QaAihNEALw_wcB Also, the alternator is a 130 amp example which was part of the March system. Further, had to change the carb. The one on the car and was used for the dyno in 2016 turns out to be a Holley 780cfm vacuum secondary carb. My mechanic could not tune it the way he wanted since the car was running way too rich. Looks like the new carb will be a Quick Fuel 750 cfm double pumper. Might get a few more ponies out of it. |

I still haven't got the car back. However, I was at the shop and took some quick pictures for you. I plan on doing two videos once I get the car back. One will be of the under hood and the other will be of the underside. I know the videos will burn up some purists on this board. Nothing I can do about that, but it's my car and the resto mod changes are what I like. I will also follow up with a video of the changes to my '73 T/A once I get that back.
