Replacing vertical chrome on back glass of 65 GTO
What is the procedure for removing and installing the vertical chrome/seal on the back glass of a 1975 GTO.?
Do I have to remove the glass from the car or can I do this in place? |

I replaced the rear seat roll up windows chrome molding/ seal on my 70 gto and maybe its the same thing on your 65. The chrome strip is held on the window by a strip of butyl tape or rubber u-strip. With constant pressure and some heat...I just kept pulling and the chrome strip finally just pulled off the glass. The replacement chrome strip,I installed the new rubber weather stripping on that. Then installed the new tape that came with the chrome strip on the glass and then just push on the chrome strip,. Its just the friction and tightness of the tape/rubber u-strip that holds the chrome on the glass. Hope thats what your looking for. On mine I did not have to remove the glass. I did remove the rubber U=seal that is at the bottom and is screwed to the door jamb to give me more room to work. It wasnt that bad doing the job. The new weather stripping slid into the chrome strip kind of hard but you want it to stay in there and not slide down. Little soapy water helped install weather strip onto chrome.

The 65 has a phillips head screw in the bottom of that molding on the leading edge that screws into the potmetal casting. I just took mine apart a couple of weeks ago.
