Default 69 quadrajet pull off release time

I am working on a 69 GTO quadrajet and I was checking the plastic secondary pull off and it takes about 5 or 6 seconds for it to completely release after the vacuum is released from it. I was thinking that about 2 seconds is normal. Is there a way to modify this? Or does it need modified? The secondaries don’t seem to work well on it when it is in use. Thanks

hi, I am building a 17057253 for a spare 455 im putting together. I bought a quick release pull off from cliff, it does take about 2 seconds. I have modified the plastic ones by enlarging the hole inside the hose end. go slow, a small enlargement goes a long ways. good luck, BLUE TA,

Wire drill bits and a pin vise work great for this. Just a few thousanths at a time.

And if you go too far, stick a plastic plug or similar in the vacuum line feeding the pull off and use your wire bits to size the hole in the plug accordingly. I have used pieces of plastic golf tees for the plug.

After installing one of Cliff’s secondary pull off’s, the secondaries work great. It took all of the guesswork out of it.

Good news John. The plastic pull-offs have been defective for years, and we take every single one we sell apart and modify them so they work correctly. Otherwise you will find yourself winding the secondary spring WAY too tight to try to prevent hesitation/stumble/bog going quickly to full throttle from idle or low RPM's.

The bent tube later primary pull-offs currently being offered are also garbage. We still offer the straight tube variety and "adjust" each one we sell for correct opening rate.

Show below is a "kit" that we sell for the later carbs for folks having troubles in that area........Cliff
