SRS Light Stays On
Just picked up a 2000 Grand Prix GT for a great price. It has a few small issues, one being that the SRS light in the instrument panel won't turn off after starting the car as the other warning lights do. Has anyone else had this problem that can lead me in right direction to finding the probable cause for this? I was thinking of disconnecting the battery power to "reset" any trouble codes that are causing this. Would that be a good or bad thing? I have no history about the car from the previous owner.

if the car seems to run alright, and has no driveability issues, a loose gas cap will trigger the SRS light, don't know if disconnecting battery will clear it or not, unless you have a code scan tool to clear it, try Autozone, or local garage and see if they will do it for ya.

Car runs fine. No driveability issues. I wasn't aware that that the Gas Cap not sealing would trigger the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). I'll have to check that out more closely. Cap does seem to be alright though. Out here in California you can't rent the Scan Tools to read the Trouble Codes or have Autozone, etc retrieve any stored codes in the computer. Only the Dealer, or a Repair Shop will read the codes for you now. Can you believe that! Something about one of the big chain part stores (I think it was Autozone) being sued for misdiagnosing someones vehicle. Was trying to avoid having to pay 65.00 bucks to have someone just tell me what the code is. Thanks for the reply.
