Question A body 4 speed shifter questions

I am getting rid of the absolutely worthless ITM shifter in my 80k mile 1973 Grand Am before it takes the tranny out and have some questions regarding the Hurst Competition Plus aftermarket shifter. I am retaining the original chrome handle, so I know I will have to drill the handle to fit the new Hurst Competition Plus shifter. I will also have to alter the reverse lockout rod to fit the new Hurst shift lever on the transmission, which I have already done on my 1973 GTO that a previous owner installed a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. I would copy the exact setup in my GTO, but the GTO does not have a console to contend with. I was wondering if instalation kit 3738616 would be the best one for my application? I would use the 3915401 shifter with this kit.

I got the ITM shifter in my Grand Am. I got lucky a few years ago and found a brand new original ITM, still in the original box. I still have my original ITM also. I like the ITM shifter. Has great movement thru the gears. I know Hurst shifters are the best but I can't see how I could get a better shift from my ITM.
