How do I clean an ashtray?
I pulled the ashtray out of my car and it is nasty. I tried scrubbing it with a brillo pad but it still looks bad (see pic). Is there a way to clean or restore the inside?

Glass bead it and paint it or send it to Bill Oxley for a restoration

Ive had them replated and they look much better.

wpoxley@comcast.net I did a batch of these for other members on the board last year. I can make it look new again, BUT... there is no way to replate over the pits . I have seen many that look worst than yours come out looking brand new. The key is using the proper plating. I preach this all the time, but if you replate in zinc, it will be too shiney and not look correct. My guy(one of a handful who has EPA lisence to use real Cadmium) uses cadmium. Others can attest to how good and originalk mine look. I will do another batch if I can get 5 or more ashtrays from fellow PY's posters... Shoot me an email.. Bill Oxley |
