Question Dash Question?

I am looking at purchasing a 1969 Gto dashpad in mint condition but it does not have dash vent holes cut-out? Does anyone have any info on this or has seen this? Just to clarify it is the side vents, I have never seen one with out these two vents one on either side

Upper vents were some sort of option, I have seen only LeMans like that. Not sure if it was automatic on a GTO, would have to look at my order sheets at home to maybe take a good guess.

Look here at my old 71 GT-37 PHS:

Now look at the build sheet:

That RC56 is the code for the upper vent, yet its not on the billing invoice.

They were omitted on cars with vent windows (ie: Post cars/Station Wagons)...

yes, what Robz said! I got burned on one of these a few years back when I bit the bullet to buy a nice no-crack one. I guess I was in shock for even finding one that I didn't notice the missing vents until I got it home. Base level Tempest dashboard. I thought about trying to carve the vents in myself, then noticed the metal core doesn't have the holes or studs on the back side so it would be a pointless attempt resulting in destroying the dashboard. I had a plan to solve this: I bought 68 kick panels with the single lever to go with the dashboard. When it came time to put the car together I got cold feet and let my fear of the finger pointers take over the common sense angle that it's a convertible anyways so who cares if it's got vents.....obviously I cared enough that the dash is still sitting wrapped under the bed right now. Now I still need a nice dash for my other 69. My choices are: Dash cap I already bought and am afraid to use, Tempest dash no vents, lots of finger pointers waiting to make me self conscious, or million dollar Just dashes replacement, or finally, cracked original......don't need to decide yet, but the time's coming soon! (And no, I don't REALLY fear the finger pointers....it's just that I've been one too long to shuck off the feeling of crying foul!)

All the 69-72 GTOs had the dash vents on each side.

That dash wouldn't be "totally correct". But it will work. Would look trick in a low option/no option Car, or racer.

Just to be more precise, this dash was for vent window equipped cars without A/C.

An A/C post car would use the same dash pad as an A/C GTO

north, I am glad you joined the forums. Almost every post I have read of yours has contained viable and pertinent information to the issue at hand or the GTO hobby in general. Thank You.

Is there any money or plaques involved or just the compliment?

Thanks guys, this is an interesting forum. I keep learning new things here two ways:
1...Sometimes my preconceived notion is wrong and someone in the know tags me on it.
2...Also, pronouncing yourself in front of lots of knowledgable people forces you to do your home work and check it out and then speak instead of the other way around.
