HI,
Just received my 2.5 inch Pypes X pipe exhaust for my 1979 Trans am. I am test fitting everything, and cannot figure out where the hanger for the mufflers should be. The instructions say on the rear seat pan just in front of the rear, but I don't see any factory holes, and don't want to make the floor swiss cheese trying to get the right spot! Any suggestions? Thanks alot, Bob |

Myself and others have fabricated the hangers, it's fairly easy. Search for Having Problems With Pypes Cross flow Installation

Your car probably had a crossflow muffler above the rear. If you don't want to drill holes in your floors, Most TA's have two sets of bracket holes above the rear. You can use Pypes HVH40 hangers for these holes. Once installed, you will need to hook a right angle wire form to the insulator in the bracket and tack weld the other end to the tailpipe as it passes over the rear.

Thanks for the help. My car had the factory brackets above the rear and they were still in good shape. I was able to use them with a couple 2.5 inch clamps, and it seems to hold well. Do you think that hanging them there will be enough? There is no other support for the system all the way up to the headers.....
It all seems tight, and looks great, just making sure I don't create more problems down the road! Thanks again, Bob |

If everything is tight and those hangers and the metal around them are solid, then you should be fine.

It's all in great shape, so I am sure it will hold fine.
