Unhappy The day you bring 'em home...

You know they're gonna break your heart.

Danny, our springer, had been ailing for the last year. He handled his blindness OK, but he was also very arthritic, and medication wasn't helping. He'd been very unsteady on his feet for a week or so, was off his feed, and this morning, he couldn't get up to go outside, and was incontinent in his bed, a first.

We made the trip to the vet this afternoon, and after sedation and an exam, he said there was nothing else to be done, and the time had come. So, our sweet pup went down peacefully in his sleep.

Danny came to us 10 years and 2 weeks ago from the San Martin animal shelter.

Through the years:

Danny and his mistress

Bob and Danny at Yosemite

The three of us at Yosemite

Bob and Danny on the beach in Carmel

We were both 67 this past Spring, and don't know the future might bring for getting another dog. Have to think about that for a while, and right at the moment my monitor's kinda blurry.

Good dog, Danny, good dog. Hope we meet again some day.

Sorry to hear that Bob. Losing a beloved pet is hard to endure. Don't worry tho.. he'll be keeping an eye on yas.

Lost my favorite cat on May 28th. Last Sunday I could have sworn I heard her meow a few times out in back of the house by the garage. No, no other animals around because I checked. Creepy as all hell.

Sorry to hear about your best friend, Bob.
With that out of the way, don't pull that might-be-our-last-dog stuff. Seeing as how you are always the first to encourage those who lose a dog to get out and rescue another, you don't get a pass.
By the end of July we want to see pics of your newest rescue. I personally think a Border Collie would be an excellent choice.

Very sorry about the loss of your great long time friend Bob.
Much luckier than me to get that many years.

Do a search on youtube for Jim Stafford song - Mr.Bojangles
Cry it out real good a few times with ol' Jim

Eventually you need to be rescued by another good dog
Probably the sooner the better
Get well soon Man

I'm sorry for your loss Bob. I went through this a couple of years ago with our Cattle dog, Rocky. I miss that dog... Luckily we had a one year old Aussie that made coming home more bearable, I highly suggest you let another one pick you.

Good luck.

I recall you posting when you got him. Beautiful boy. I love that photo of the three of you. What are the odds your old post is still here?

So sorry Bob - they ask for so little and give so much.

Go rescue another.

What all of the above have said! My wife and I never were blessed with children so we turned to rescuing and they are our kids. It is a sad day when they have to leave us but what is important is that you gave that animal a great life. The day will come when it is right to rescue another forgotten pet...
Thoughts and prayers to you and the family.
