Tri power? vacuum routing
So things are looking up and I am thinking about installing the tri power I got from Andre from what I can decode it is off a 66 GTO auto man brakes. Who ever had it looks like they did some rigging an the rear carb for a vacuum source for the distributor. My car has power brakes and from looking at some other units appears that the vacuum source is off the back of the front base plate mine is blocked. I have also seen the right rear front carb stud used as the vacuum advance source not sure if that is correct. I have been looking for the correct front base but no luck. What do you guys think ? I thought the dist needed to be ported. Opinions ?

You can use it for the distributor (lots of differing opinions on manifold vs ported), but the original was for accessories (?) on AC cars. Here is a good link:http://www.pontiactripower.com/shop/1966-hollow-stud
Hope this helps! |

The only difference in the actual casting for the front and rear carbs was the vacuum port on the front carb (the back carb was not drilled). Of course the complete throttle body assemblies differ with throttle shaft arms and (if manual linkage) the pump operating rod.
Has someone switched the front and rear castings; or do you have two rear castings? Jon.

You can always drill and tap the front base to use the original set up for the brake booster.

The front base has a round raised area on the back of the base I was afraid to drill into it not knowing what it was. The base plates are different from frt to rear the rear has a small vacuum port at the rear of the plate not big enough for the booster vacuum .It is a 1/4 threaded hole not sure what it was used for. Why does the pcv use 2 ports?. Also what's the deal with raising the carbs up off the manifold vapor lock? is that a myth. Thanks for all the help.

Agree with post #3 (carbking) that the carbs have probably been switched around.
The front throttle plates have the drilled/taped hole and the rear plates always have a slightly raised, solid casting. Vacuum for a Power Brake 66 comes off the brass fitting threaded into the front base as seen in first pic below.

Makes one wonder why they put it on the front carb to begin with?
Wouldn't it be better there anyway? |

The throttle plate rod is different for the linkage on frt and rear do you think they went through the trouble of changing them?
