a proper lifter interchange thread
Ok so I have been doing some digging for NOS GM lifters, and cross referencing application against part numbers.
If I am correct, Sealed power HL-951/HT951 & Elgin HL1951 sell as a BOP lifter, so that might assume that in a pinch, any Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac lifter can interchange. It looks like the aftermarket BOP lifters all use some form of '951' in their part number as a means of identifying them. (please correct me if I'm wrong) I was wondering if anyone has written down a list of OEM part numbers with the application which interchange with either of these aftermarket numbers, and made notes for the differences. This is what I have found from many searches: 5232265 HL-46 Pontiac; all exc 301 5232780 HL-?? Pontiac; 1970 455 5232900 HL-?? Pontiac; 455HO / 70-72 455 s/t 5231360 HL-?? Pontiac; 1964 & earlier "low ball" lifter 5232675 HL-64 Pontiac; RAIV 5232075 HL-?? Pontiac; 60-63SD / RAV; solid/mechanical 5232750 HL-62 Oldsmobile 5232895 HL-?? Oldsmobile; 0.010" oversized application for '750 5232245 HL-47 Buick (Also 61-62 Pontiac?!) 5232765 HL-57 Buick 455 5233005 HL-?? Buick; 0.010" oversized application for '765 I have intentionally left the Chevrolet lifters off because I understand the oiling band is not in a good spot... again, please correct me here. Can anyone fill in any of these blanks, or correct me if they will NOT work in a Pontiac V8?

BOP? Probably not. The Olds/Pontiac lifter is likely the same although there may be model-year differences on both that I'm not aware of. Chevy, and 70-up Buick big block are essentially the same except the pushrod cup height is different. Pushrod cup height is easily compensated for by changing pushrod length. I don't know about small-block or V6 Buick--I suspect they're the same as the '70-later BBB.
Lunati sold an Olds/Pontiac lifter with "951" as part of the part number. This went into my Olds Toro 455: Note that '67--'69 Buick lifters did not provide oil to the pushrods. The rockers were lubed through the rocker shaft. And that may or may not be true of the small-blocks, and the V6. The '53--66 "Nailhead" Buick lifters were different than any of the others. thank you for a great reply.
I did stumble here on a thread where an HL-46 & HL-47 lifters were disassembled, and (at least in that discussion) nothing could be seen as different; From your description, maybe they were HL-46 lifters mislabeled as HL-47 ??
