Purported numbers '70 Formula
Hemmings emailed me with this car:
Red on black '70 Formula 4 speed It looks like there is indeed a build sheet as per the Hemmings write up, so my guess is that it's a Van Nuys car; No information regarding factory ordered equipment is mentioned; It is purported to be a numbers car, so with that in mind I find some of the deviations (eg: engine paint colour, painted black stripes, and 70-71 Camaro rear spoiler) to be disappointing. I also am scratching my head at the Esprit rocker trim, and cloth inserts that have been replaced with another type of vinyl (it looks like the original stuff is still on the door panels). It also have all the chrome work, except for the fender tops and doors(!?). I'd love to see more about this car to know if it was indeed a complete numbers car before it was restored, as it seems to me that very few '70 Formulas still exist with their as built drivetrain. I like that the standard Formula air cleaner is present, and understand the RA manifolds. In all it's a really nice car, but in my books could be so much better - especially at the nearly $40k asking price. OK, this image does not speak well: (when you see it, my comment will make sense.) Interesting!? This as originally a white car, with a black "rubber" roof! That's probably a sharp colour combination - especially with the black cloth interior! Considering how popular white is right now, I am surprised that the car wasn't redone in original colours! (edited to add attached images for when it disappears)

I got that same email and also noted the odd ‘Camaro wannabe’ approach, as well as the engine paint. Cool to see a 4-speed Formula, for sure. The ad really read like a typical ‘used car salesman’ pitch.
Hopefully someone here winds up with it and can bring her back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cowl tag denotes white with black vinyl top.

Just watched the vid......
https://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/S...rd-Formula-400 Nice car....but a "purist"....wouldn't pay close to 40k....for it.....Just too much incorrect stuff going on... I'd say the seats have leather inserts in them.....but my money would have been spent on a new console...without cigarette burns in it,instead. Wrong engine color....black painted fender tops...incomplete belt reveal moldings (hood only)...Esprit rocker trim.....and the list goes on... The stripes and rear spoiler may entice a camero guy...into the fold.. |

I really don't want to seem a nitpick, but someone obviously spent some money on this car to flip it, and it could have been so much better... and it could be much worse.

Rear spoiler looks hideous. It goes against the lines of the car.

I'll bet that it's an estate...or divorce sale..... Somebody built it the way they wanted it.....and then had to unload it...... The dealer prolly gave 20 k for it.....and is hoping for 35k... Perhaps they detailed the engine and underneath... |

And a black deluxe interior with the cloth inserts, which was pretty uncommon. Looks like the black cloth is still in the door trim panels, but the seats have had the inserts replaced.

x2 the rear spoiler is a fail. While trying to be subtle, it is far too long and hangs off each end.
