Question Engine Info-62 big Pontiacs

I looked at a 62 Grand Prix today, but the engine was quite greasy. The seller said I could get the build date and engine #,but I don't want to clean the whole thing yet.Where are these #'s located? Where do I find the ID stuff? e.g. YT,WS,WW,XS,et.al.sorry,these are GTO letter codes!

This page shows where to look, they're on the front of the block on the passenger side, next to the timing chain cover: http://www.wallaceracing.com/enginesearch4.htm If the block is original to the car, there will be a VIN on the block next to the engine code that will match the VIN on the driver's door A pillar. Most likely it will be a single four barrel 389ci engine rated at 303 hp.
