Default 1965 Deluxe hub cap color

I bought a set of correct "Deluxe Wheel Disc" hubcaps for my son's 65 Tempest Custom from a swap meet. Two of them have the light gray paint color I've seen on these all my life, but the other two have a darker gray color. As far as I can tell, they are original, not repainted. Were there two different shades from the factory? If so, what determined which color are given car got?

Thanks,
Importsmasher

Default NOS

A pair of never used NOS 1965 Deluxe Wheel Disc for the Tempest Series.

These photos were taken in a shaded area. I’m sure in the bright sunshine they would be less dark.

Different shades.

Personally I think the dark factory color wore off quickly from weather elements and washing.

So it looks like some cars randomly got lighter ones and some darker? I had never seen the darker ones until we bought these. Eventually we'll have to paint them to match (his car has a long way to go lol).

BTW, those NOS caps are beautiful!

Thanks,
Importsmasher

The actual color used is the ralley 2 charcoal grey before it was used for that purpose The reason it looks different in pictures as a previous poster mentioned is that the paint lost pigmentation very quickly and became more translucent. The paint was also applied very very thinly over the polished portion of the cap, however the NOS cap is the true appearance.
