Anyone know this gentleman?
I sold a part to this man and he sent me this message. Beautiful car and a real dyed in the wool cammer.
With any luck, this head will live in the above car, which I bought new when I was 22. The triple carbs were added in 1971. It currently has on it a '66 sprint head, and on a 250ci block the compression is so high I have to run aviation gas. The head I have now was very tired when I got it. I was given the entire engine, but eventually kept only the head, as the rest was very well worn. I did a valve grind, reamed the guides .003", and installed new valves. It was obvious that at least one, and probably more valve grinds had been done before, and the valve tips were significantly too high, and I had to modify the lash adjusters to make the engine run without valves leaking when the oil pressure hit the adjuster gallery. Information on these engines was slim to nada back then, I had to learn the hard way how to make it run. I began using this head in the lemans as a pure experiment back in the early '70's, power was so good I left it on all these years, in spite of the problems. It still runs pretty damned good, even today. But, it would be great to get a "good" head on this engine! Cheers! |
