Default Spark plug temperature

How do I determine what temperature NGK plug I should run in my engine?

In short it’s a 10.5:1, 432, with Edelbrock Round ports. 243/251 @.050 and .618/.622 lift.

I’m not sure what temp range plug to get for this engine?

6 should be a good place to start. Possibly 5 if you have very cool operating temps.

I run BKR6E in mine. Same heads, similar compression.

The plug heat range you need has more to do with HOW YOU DRIVE than how the engine s built.

You drive with your foot on the carpet for extended time, you'll need colder plugs. You drive like Grandma, you'll need hotter plugs.

I'm not saying the engine build is not a consideration. I'm saying it's not the only consideration.

Never even considered that. I am a very spirited driver but do a lot of cruising. I’ll probably start with a 6 temp range and see how that works out for me, though i won’t find out until next year.

If you're bordering on preignition you may even try an 7 or 8.. NGK 5 were a little hot for me, I'm at an 8, running between 185 -205 cold compression, 93 non-ethanol. Engine didn't like the ethanol cat p 93

Most guys are running 7's or 8's...check your heat range on your ground strap on your sparkplug to be sure.

Definitely check them. For the plug I listed, a 7 would be getting pretty cold. Crosses to a 9 in Champion, which we used years ago in 12.5:1 engines.
