Nortic Silver and Palladium Silver
Can anyone describe the color, or shade difference between the 1971, paint code 13, Nordic Silver Metallic and the 1969, paint code 14, Palladium Silver Metallic?
Thanks, Jim |

I think it would be hard to tell those 2 silvers apart in their original formulas. I happen to have the PPG mixing formulas for each in acrylic enamel that were given to me by another PY member here (Dar). Here they are, these are the gallon formulas and the weight in grams is cumulative:
2059 Palladium: 481yellow = 8 490black = 16 411blue = 28 431poly = 748 496katalyst = 828 499clear = 4068 2327 Nordic: 441green = 4 411blue = 8 491black = 80 431poly = 800 495kat = 880 499clear = 4120 The only significant difference I see in the formula is that the Nordic has a bit more black, but not much difference.

Thank you Rick.
I am going to go to Painters Supply tomorrow to see if they have any color chips that old. My car was originally Palladium Silver, but it has been in primer so long (35 years), I can't remember the shade. I want to repaint it silver again, but I'm not sure which one. Thanks again, Jim |

Thanks again Rick. I'm thinking it might be the Nortic Silver that I am looking for. I went to a Oldsmobile show last weekend in Ohio, and there was a 442 that I really liked. The owner told me that it was a early 70's Cadillac silver, but he said code 14, which I think is Pallidum Silver.
Anyways, when the sun hit the character lines, it looked almost pearl. Kinda like the photo of the 71 on the front end. |
