Default quarters for 68 convertible

I see no one offers aftermarket full quarter panels for 68/69 convertibles. Has anyone ever modified a hardtop quarter panel to use on a convertible or are skins the only option?

I modified hdtp quarters from an Olds Cutlass to fit a Cutlass vert.........Not a big deal as I cut at the break-line and used the lower part...........JB.

Thanks. I guess the flare-up toward the back window doesn't start until past the opening you cut for the convertible top?

If your door jambs are solid,I'd use the skins. The section along rear deck/trunk lid area is totally different between hdtp/conv. Also the area at quarter window. You'd be wasting $ on hdtp panels unless you need the lower door jamb section.

Do a search in the 68/69 forums and here in this forum too. This subject has been discussed quite a bit as far as what changes need to be made to make them fit.

Thanks for the tips guys. I had already searched all forums for several different key words and couldn't come up with anything. I wouldn't just throw out a question and bother everybody if I could have found something usefull. I know how valuable everybody's time is! Can you suggest a link or specific key words to find the threads you are talking about?

You're right..I tried for 5 minutes and it's very difficult to come up with just the right keywords.
Here's a suggestion...PM either or both "PaulatFast" or "gto4evr"..I'm pretty sure it was one or both of them that have discussed this quite a bit.
Another option is to post the question in the '68/'69 forum as well as here and one of those guys or others who know the convertibles will see it.

Thanks again guys. The thread 6869GTO suggested is pretty good. I have some filler in the passenger door jamb, which is what got me thinking in the first place. I think what I'll do is strip the area down and see how bad it is. If it can be patched easily, I'll go with skins. If not, I'll have to think about modifying the full quarter. This will be this winter's project.

Here's the deal. The quarters on a vert are way different than on a HT. If you buy the full quarter, you'll be able to use the jamb and nothing else that a skin doesn't cover. Unless your jamb is junk, it's a waste of time. The convert quarter has a concave body line that the HT doesn't have. If you use a skin, only go as high as absolutely necessary. Trust me on this. I've been there many, many times, and seen many, many really bad attempts at doing this differently.

Here's at least one of the threads that might be helpful..especially if you decide to patch instead of a full quarter replacement..

It runs from under the quarter window, about 6 inches from the jamb, all the way to about 6 inches from the rear of the car.

I believe I can see what Paul is talking about. Look at the 68 GTO convertible here on Pauls web site.
http://www.fastrestorations.com/page2.html
Compared to the 69 Judge above it I can see the concave area. At least I think that is it.

The rear quarters on the verts do indeed closely mimmick the front fender lines.
That 68 is a good car to use as an example as it has all of it's virgin metal in place. All we did was minimal repair and topcoat with a good quality finish.
