Default Quick ratio P/S box

What is anyone using for a quick ratio P/S box in your darksider?
Lee Manufacturing sells one that's
a 12.7:1 ratio 800 steering gear with a 30-35 inch pound valve for $440.00. I'd like to change it out and add a big front sway bar over the winter on my '66 Catalina. It's tough to jump out of my truck with a rack and steer the Cat. Too much turning!

Hmm, it worked for me last night. Just go to advanced search at the top of the page, type in 'lee steering box' and select the 62-66 big Pontiac tech section.

I'm using a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee unit. Bought it used for $40.00, cleaned it up, shot it with a coat of Goodson LB-1 cast iron last blast paint, used the '62 pitman arm and a new coupler from a 1985 Chev. pickup (LARES 200 from Rock Automotive). Everything bolts right up. I haven't put it on the road yet (no engine or tranny) and I don't have the lines made. The unit was clean and dry and worked great when I pulled it from the donor car so I didn't even rebuild it. My engine is a '76 455 so the pump and hoses may be close. Haven't got that far yet.

Stuart, your link didn't work but after some searching I guess the Lee box is the way to go. Pricey but it's an important item to make the car more fun to drive! That and dual quads....

Default Olds442 site power steering

This site has some good tips reguarding updating gears, and changing steering boxes from junker cars. I just posted this in the 64-65 leMans section last week.

Used one from a 72 Grand Prix on my 63 wagon. Worked nice.

FWIW I think A & F body boxes as well as I think it was Jeep boxes. Should be something decent to choose from with the huge variety of cars these were on.

IMO, just get in touch with power steering services and see what they can do for you.

They can rebuild your box with better guts, get the stops in the right place and keep your original fittings.

I was reminded of thus by a less-than-cordial email. But the reasoning is sound and there are multiple positive referrals on the board, so I'll take them at their word.

I was looking for first hand experience here (thanks Blackcat) as I know there's lots of old threads with advice. Has anyone used a Lee box?

I've used Lee's in the past with good results.

I have a Lee quick ratio steering box on my 66 Bonnie... love it. Also had them dial down the power assist and the car drives great... like a new car! Tracks beautiful with no slop... perfect on the highway and in the city. This plus my rear sway bar (off a 75 Grandville) and the old girl corners like a slot car!

I have a 62 with a late model ws6 box. But the boxes that I have had Lee redo for me have always just felt so much better. In my opinion it is the single best mod you can do for the handling. Made my 66 GTO feel like my wife's G35 Infiniti.

I know it's like $200 more than the other guys. But after having tried both, it's well worth it if you can afford Lee's.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with the Lee box. Pricey, but I think it'll be worth it.
